The Development Story
January 1st 1993 at IBM, James Hyslop, CEO of TRS Claims, held a new years resolution meeting with insurers, loss adjusters, suppliers, repair engineers and claim handlers to discuss a vision of insurance claims processing. Progress On Projects
Last year TRS reported the stories brought to us from Water Aid about the individuals whom have been positively impacted upon kind donations. Hearing from
Isaac on the lack of safe toilets in his village and Carla and Ensart’s daily trips to collect clean water, donations reported that 1.9m people now have safe water, 3m people were reached with sanitation and 4.7m were reached with hygiene promotion.

The 6th January marked the start of a new venture for TRS with a partnership with The Career and Enterprise Company in promoting opportunities for the future workforce. Having previously supported the development of young professionals, last week introduced some new faces to the expanding TRS team.
Career Initiative Starts

Disaster Strikes Samsung
In August Samsung released the Note 7, the most expensive model to hit the market which added a tightening of the phone’s security. Along with PIN access, passwords, fingerprint reader and pattern readers, this latest model introduced Iris Scanning to ensure that personal information stored on the phone was kept even safer. However, disasters continue to strike the company after hitting the media headlines.
Immediate Future for the GI Market: Challenging?

Biggest Impact Will Come From Within
Last year during the Modern Claims Magazine conference, David Williams from AXA Insurance made the comment that ‘the biggest threat to the insurance industry will come from within’. Most recently, Insurance Age has reported that 75% of established insurance companies believe that building new products will have a massive impact to our sector which will positively impact the customer’s experience.

Back in April it was reported that the majority of fires had occurred due to an appliance fault, incurring some potentially large bills for home insurers. TRS have already been advising customers to register their appliance through Amdea, a scheme which was launched last year.

Since 2014, the insurance industry has changed dramatically in the household and contents sector, with the Institute of Customer Services suggesting that customers are becoming more demanding. Whilst our sector has always been criticised for its slow uptake on social media and other technologies, it has woken up and began to embrace it to further improve customer service. An area which TRS Claims has now been recognised for.

Wednesday 15th June welcomed the Doctors Chambers Modern Claims Conference at the home of footballing excellence, Old Trafford hosted by Andrew Twambley, founder of InjuryLawyers4U and Technical Director at Axa Insurance, David Williams. In previous years, these conferences have solely focused upon the claims market but Wednesday looked at the future and implementations.

TRS have two chosen charities, one of which is Water Aid, whom was set up in the 80’s to provide clean drinking water and sanitation solutions to communities across Nicaragua, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, Soloman Islands and Timor-Leste. Water Aid’s Project Pioneers is to construct RainWater Harvesting Systems (RWH) and toilets.
Insurance Age has reported that insurers are worried about losing out business to InsurTech start-ups with innovation and creativity needed to be injected into organisations to progress, rather than miss out on an opportunity. Although the industry has acknowledge that the ‘customer is king’, is the industry putting their needs before their own?

It has been featured in many publications that the insurance and financial sectors has been deemed slow in taking up new initiatives compared to other sectors. However, times have changed, with organisations acknowledging the importance of ‘ominchannel’, using aggregators, social media and more traditional methods to offer customer service.
Recognised for Digital Excellence!
Since the company was first born, it has focused on creating solutions for the insurance industry and heavily invested in software, with the first claims handling system, Cair, followed by the first comparison site, Comparabuy, which enables searches without a model number. By setting up the TRS Centre of Excellence a few years ago, TRS started offering apprenticeships in Software Development where Joe Andrews joined via TDM Wyre Academy. Joe has just been shortlisted for the Young Digital Professional of the Year.
Mitigating Risk in the Supply Chain
A hot topic which continues to be covered within the media after some high profile breaches, and a subject which would have been focused on at yesterdays BIBA ’16 exhibition and conference is Cyber. The governments statistics revealed 65% of large firms had detected a cyber security breach and 25% of those experiencing a breach at least once a month… Steve White, Chief Executive of BIBA has urged the industry to take up cyber protection insurance, broaden their understanding and awareness.
Looking Out For You
Recent statistics regarding customer retention show that only 37% of customers completely trust their insurance company, with 40% of those surveyed thinking of changing their provider. For large insurers, it is more difficult to be flexible, connectable and innovate in-line with customers behaviour and requirements. However, insurers cannot afford to lose customers so they should prioritise rewarding existing customers rather than attracting new business.
WaterAid have come a long way. Since 1981, the charity have reached 23 million people in providing them safe water with TRS being a proud supporter from the beginning. After a fantastic year, WaterAid are proud to launch the latest programme ‘Project Pioneers’, aiming to help people in five countries: Cambodia, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Soloman Islands and Timor-Leste.
Prevention Better Than A Cure?
It has been reported this month that within London one in five fires have been caused from white goods, such as tumble dryers, fridges and freezers, washing machines and dishwashers. An even more worrying statistics is that 90 per cent of these items aren’t due to human error but an electrical or appliance fault with the customers not being informed if the appliance have been recalled, this is information that has to be sourced through websites and the media.
Growing The Digital Economy
A recent study from the Centre of Economics and Business Centre showed that the digital economy, covering media, internet and creative businesses within the UK is overtaking Finance and the Retail Sector. This fully supports the adaptations the insurance industry and TRS have been making to provide the best customer experience and smoother claims cycle for all parties.

Returning for its 6th year, POST Claims Awards are back on June 2nd at the Royal Garden Hotel in London with TRS among others to attend. TRS’s reputation within the industry has been upon its excellence customer service and unrivaled software solutions, however the company over the last few years have been heavily involved in offering apprenticeships and work placements, with acknowledgement of this at this years ceremony.
Rise To The Top
Alongside other businesses and learning providers, TRS will be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week and the contributions that each apprentice has made to the company. Since 2013, TRS have been heavily involved in partnering with local trainers to offer young professionals work experience and apprenticeship placements with the number of vacancies increasing year on year.
Commitment to Youth with CII
Back in October, TRS’s apprentices attended the Apprenticeship Live in Bristol organised by the CII and Insurance Times, with the initiative to encourage young professionals into the sector. With TRS’s major interest with work experience placements and apprenticeship schemes, the company has teamed up with local authorities, academies and the CII to increase awareness and shape the future workforce.

TRS have been heavily involved in numerous charities over the last 25 years and organise an annual classic car event at the legendary Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb based just outside of Worcester, which continues to grow year on year . CEO, James Hyslop has supported a local charity FOAG (Farmers Overseas Action Group) whose aim is to create a better future for rural Ugandans to allow opportunities in education, nutrition and adequate healthcare.

Insurance Times & CII promote Apprenticeships
Kick started earlier this year, the Insurance Times have joined forces with the Chartered Insurance Institute to promote apprenticeships within the industry. Hosting half day events in a number of cities, this event saw speakers from Insurance Times, CII, Zurich and a successful former apprentice, offering their experiences and the battles they face with a industry,which portrays a ‘dull’ and ‘uninspiring’ image.

The Replacement Service has had a fantastic success rate with the apprenticeship scheme and currently employ 100% of those that were took on. TRS are happy to welcome another group of young professionals who will be educated on all aspects of the business with specialising in IT, software and systems. Partnering up with 3AAA in Worcester, TRS have introduced Jake and Leon to the team, to encourage a new generation to the insurance industry.
Modern Claims Awards
Early evening on Thursday 30th April, the TRS team ventured to Leeds to attend the Modern Claims Awards at the stunning Royal Armouries located by the docks. TRS’s product ClaimBrain was sponsoring the ‘Claims Management Team of The Year’ Award due to it’s support and ease in claims handling.

In broadening products, The Replacement Service can officially reveal the development in Jewellery Claims with the backing from the National Association of Goldsmiths (NAG). This partnership gives an established voucher system and 2,800 retail outlets with a total UK coverage.
Apprenticeships Boost TRS Development
Over the past few years, apprenticeships were estimated to drive the growth of small businesses and the UK economy. This reflects the figures from national publications this week, stating that since 2009, there has been a 72% increase in employers appointing job roles for apprentices.The Replacement Service, like many other companies across the nation, have benefited from this scheme.
Summer Solstice Success
On the glorious morning of Saturday 21st June, car enthusiasts gathered at Shelsley Walsh for our 1st Open Hill Climb Event. A combination of beautiful , classic vehicles and some very fast specials experienced the unique opportunity of driving the famous course and Alvis, Austin, Bentley, BMW, Jensen, Lotus, Mercedes, Porshe, Rolls Royce, Triumph were amongst some of the marques that were displayed in all their glory and full to the brim of friends and family in cavalcades up the hill.
